Veramaris taps food marketing veteran as new marketing director

September 6, 2021 - Delft, The Netherlands-based Veramaris has hired Anthony Lin to serve as the company’s new global marketing and communications director.

Lin began in his new position on 1 September, and will lead the development and execution of the company’s marketing strategy. Lin has previous food marketing expertise with Mars, Unilever, and Upfield in his portfolio.

“I am genuinely excited to be joining Veramaris and being part of this passionate, insurgent team,” Lin said of his new position. “There’s no question that consumers are searching the shelves for more sustainable and nutritious options. With Veramaris’unique omega-3 algae oil, we have an amazing opportunity to help the aquaculture industry, retailers, hospitality, and pet food manufacturers deliver the products people are asking for, whilst reducing their impact on the planet.”

Lin joins the company from Upfield Professional, where he was the global category lead for the cream and cheese categories.

“Bringing on Anthony is a huge coup for Veramaris. His considerable experience in the global food marketing industry will be immensely valuable to us as we continue to deepen our collaboration with partners across our value-chain,” Veramaris CEO Karim Kurmaly said. “He has a proven track-record in growing food categories, partnering with global retail and foodservice brands, as well as skills in digital marketing and innovation. I’ve no doubt that Anthony will be a huge asset to Veramaris and I am looking forward to working with him as we continue to support the continued sustainable growth of aquaculture.”

Lin marks the third major hire for Veramaris this year. The company hired former marketing director of AquaChile and Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Victoria Parr in March, and then added former Seafood Connection lead Johan Brouwer in July.

Veramaris is focused on developing feed based on an omega-3 algae oil containing both EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids, which according to the company is “more potent than ever” due to ongoing research and development improvements. The company opened a USD 200 million (EUR 168 million) production facility in Blair, Nebraska, U.S.A. in 2019,and was chosen to be the alternative omega-3 feed ingredient partner for System’s Accelerator Project X Global.

The company also recently gained certification under a joint Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Marine Stewardship Council standard in January.
